Iron Horse.

Toronto: The Coach House Press, 1973. First edition (precedes the first American edition). Oblong 8vo. wrps., 56pp.

SIGNED and inscribed on the half-title page by the author: “for Don Allen - more texts for more anthologies - if anybody got patience to read anymore - Allen Ginsberg March 21, 1973”. In addition, Ginsberg has scored through the second half of a line on page 18.

A nice association, since Don Allen supported Ginsberg by publishing the full text of “Howl” in the second issue of Evergreen Review in May 1957, included his work in “The New American Poetry: 1945-1960”, the landmark poetry anthology he edited for Grove Press three years later, and published his early collection, “The Gates of Wrath”, in 1973.

The book itself prints a long poem based on a train ride (July 22-23, 1966), modelled in part on John Dos Passos’s translation of Blaise Cendrars’ “Transsiberian Voyage”, a rare Black Sun edition of which had been loaned to him by Kenneth Patchen in the early fifties.

Fine. 1000 copies printed.
