Toward New Year’s Eve 1979.

Author’s original typescript of an unpublished poem, with header in holograph pencil “Small Green Notebook January 1, 1979” (a reference to the poet’s notebook from which the poem was taken), and 9 small holograph corrections. 3pp.

The poem is a dense, allusive impression of New York City on New Year’s Eve, with mentions of Edie Parker Kerouac and references to Lucien Carr and Jack Kerouac: “12:10 A.M. -- Lucien still mustached/ in his loft, horn eyeglassed/ with a wrinkled brow/--- I'm just scribbling ditties, dear,/ your not stopping me in/ Full Creation/ I’m just trying to imitate Kerouac,/ melancholy baby after/ Blue midnight---". It's also a complex poem, replete with Ginsberg’s observations of the “particularity of things”, and a sense of nostalgia for New York “forty years ago when the painters/ & poets had a party/ celebrating old American/ Eternity before the war”.

Lightly creased, o/w Near Fine. Not in Morgan.
