Daniel Spoerri’s taxonomy of 80 objects gathered on the blue tabletop in his room at Hotel Carcassonne, 24 Rue Mouffetard, Paris on October 17, 1961, each one meticulously numbered and annotated. Robert Filliou’s biographical blurb printed on the dustwrapper’s lower flap mentions that the Rumanian-born author had once been “an apprentice bookseller in a bookstore that also sold stuffed animals. He stole a mounted frog and was dismissed.”
