“Concrete Poetry & Ian Hamilton Finlay” (16pp.) in TYPOGRAPHICA new series #8 (London: Lund Humphries, December 1963).

4to. Stiff wrps. in printed dw.

Features Houédard’s essay on Finlay and contemporary concrete poetry, accompanied by 11 recent poems by Finlay, several of them from “Rapel”. Houédard’s biographical portrait of Finlay features the hyperbolic and fantastical report (“too beautiful to be true”) that “his airship, The Wild Hawthorn Zeppelin, was going to bombard the 1962 Festival Writers’ Conference; his Wild Hawthorn March was banned by the Edinburgh magistrates; & a radio broadcast put out the rumour that 50,000 supporters of the Glasgow Rangers were going to demonstrate in favour of Shimpei Kusano the Frog Poet & the Wild Hawthorn”.

Also: Jasia Reichardt on the printer-designer-artist Josua Reichert (15pp.); Herbert Spencer (incl. cover); photographs by John Hopkins of recent exhibitions in London of typographical designers, including Piet Zwart; more.

Very Good plus to Near Fine.
