Flyer announcing ‘Dark Touch - A Blind Environment, With Only The Tactile Senses - Stimulated With Objects, Things, People And Quadrophonic Sound’, a participatory show by Harvey Matusow and Anna Lockwood held at the New Arts Lab, August 19th-September 12th (1970).
Quarto, printed in black on white stock, recto and verso. Prints a note advising participants “to experience the environment nude. A changing room will be available”, and gives ironic thanks to, among others, Ted Heath, Mary Whitehouse and Spiro Agnew. Verso illustrated with Jean Belot’s planetary and zodiacal diagram of a hand from his ‘Oeuvres Diverses’ (1649).
David Curtis suggests that the work was likely inspired by Dianne Lifton’s ‘Touch Experiment’, a series of happenings that took place in London on June 1st 1968 that she subsequently described for an article published in New Society (August 15th).
