Play Power: Exploring the International Underground.

London: Jonathan Cape, 1970. First edition. Yellow paper covered boards. 362pp.

SIGNED by Richard Neville and Martin Sharp on the title page.

Neville began writing the book in 1968, commissioned and coaxed by Ed Victor at Cape. Its working title, ‘Flower Power’, was changed late on to ‘Play Power’, the concept of playfulness seen by Neville as both matching his mood and fundamental to the counterculture. Appendices include a “Directory to the World’s Underground Press” and a reprint of Nicholas Albery’s “Project London” booklet.

Yellow boards slightly shelf-worn; head and tail of spine slightly tender; o/w Very Good plus in dw., with short tears to top edge of upper panel and lower flap fold and very slight fading to spine, o/w Very Good plus (not price-clipped). ‘Headopoly’ poster barely opened.
