EVERGREEN REVIEW #32 (NY: April-May 1964).

4to. Contains two essays by Gysin, “Cut-Ups: a Project For Disastrous Success” (4pp.) + “Cut-Ups Self-Explained” (2pp.), the appearance of which acted as a kind of manifesto and brought the cut-up method to a far-wider audience than either “Minutes To Go” or “The Exterminator” had. Gysin’s contributions are followed by “They Just Fade Away” by William Burroughs.

Also: Jean Genet; Michael McClure; Eugene Ionesco; Robert Musil; Günther Grass; Lenore Kandel; Norman Mailer.

This is the scarce issue of the Evergreen Review that the Hicksville, Long Island, Police Department confiscated as obscene, citing an article by Wayland Young and a portfolio of nude photographs by Emil J. Cadoo. A very small number were distributed to subscribers before the bulk of the printing was seized. The issue was banned from distribution in the UK.

Small area of damp-affected paper damage to lower edge of title page and corresponding area inside front cover; o/w Very Good.
