Following their original incarnation in 1968 as Hollywood theatrical rock group Messiah, the re-named Magic Tramps had various line-ups, notably including singer and minor Warhol Superstar Eric Emerson, who suggested the band relocate to New York, and Chris Stein and Ivan Kral, later of Blondie and the Patti Smith Group respectively. Emerson left in 1974 and and was found dead in mysterious circumstances a year later.
