NY: Arista Records/Wartoke Concern, Inc., c. October/ November 1975. Glossy quarto-size b/w card folder, reproducing a holograph manuscript by Smith and Robert Mapplethorpe’s cropped photo-portrait of her on the front cover.
The folder contains:
i) a stapled four-page Arista Records press release/artist biography by Trixie A. Balm (dated October 31, 1975). A freelancer at the time, Trixie A. Balm, aka Lauren Agnelli, wrote for Creem magazine and later formed a band, Nervus Rex, that also included former Cramps drummer Miriam Linna;
ii) eleven pages reproducing various press reviews and articles, including from Rolling Stone and The Village Voice;
iii) two original 10x8 b/w promo photographs, the first an outtake by Mapplethorpe from the “Horses” session, the second a Patti Smith Group shot (photographer unidentified; slightly age-toned, with three old tack holes to edges and small loss to upper edge).
Jane Friedman, Patti Smith’s manager from 1973 until 1977, worked for the management company Wartoke Concern and also handled the business affairs of the record’s producer, John Cale.
Slight handling wear to card folder; contents Near Fine. Scarce.
