An original badge and a Manny’s bass guitar pick, issued to promote Patti Smith’s song, “Rock n’ Roll Nigger”, a track from her album “Easter” (1978).

Badge with white lettering on a black ground (4.4cm. diameter); black plastic pick with lettering in white to both sides.

Originally distributed for free by the Patti Smith Fan Club (the song was Patti’s mother’s favourite), with the plectrum often thrown from the stage during PSG concerts. Near Fine.

The controversial song - intended by Smith to be about the acceptance of outsiders (“outside of society”) and never released as a single - is seldom performed now, never received mainstream radio airplay and was recently removed from streaming services, although she did perform it when she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
