Ali's Smile.
(London): Paradigm Discs, 2021. LP record (PD36). Limited edition of 1000 copies, each one individually numbered on a large insert which prints a photograph of the Unicorn Bookshop in Brighton on one side and detailed notes on the recordings by Jim Pennington to the other.
The sleeve’s front cover prints a photograph of Burroughs at the Beat Hotel (1962) by Aldo Durazzi, and the back cover shows him in Brecon (1960) in a photograph by Harriet Crowder.
The record is a re-issue of “Ali’s Smile”, mastered from the original vinyl recording, and “Nova Dispatches”, a tape recorded by Burroughs in 1963 in response to questions sent to him by a freelance researcher, Gary Goldhill, excerpts from which were later used by Eric Mottram in a radio programme titled “The Algebra of Need” (it was broadcast by the BBC on March 9, 1964, and Radio Times printed a small photo of Burroughs by Harriet Crowder to accompany its listing).
As new.
