TALK TALK Vol. 3, #6 (Lawrence, Kansas: Autumn 1981).
Ed. Bill Rich. Cover photomontage by Burroughs featuring locations in Tangiers, Europe and South America (originally given to Conrad Knickerbocker for inclusion in his Paris Review interview in 1965 but not used; the inside cover reproduces “Nova Express Out”, a three-column style collage, probably from ‘St. Louis Journal’, also given to Knickerbocker and not used; the photomontage and manuscript were loaned to Talk Talk by Knickerbocker’s son).
The magazine prints a 5pp. interview with Burroughs conducted by the editor, and contains a 6.5-inch square flexi-disc titled “Abandoned Artifacts” (from the opening chapter of “The Place of Dead Roads”), a processed version combining three separate overlapping readings (along with an added rhythm track) from recordings of his recent performances at The Edge (Toronto), Tuts (Chicago), and Keystone Korner (San Francisco).
The flexi’s other side, “On the Nova Lark”, was recorded by Burroughs “in the early 60s in London or Tangiers. It is a passage partially contained in ‘The Nova Express’. The background music is probably bleeding backwards from an instrument.”
Also includes live reviews of Peter Tosh, Abuse, Sunsplash, Venture and The Fall; interviews with the Psychedelic Furs, Billy ldol and Iggy Pop; tape and record reviews; and reports on the local music scene in Lawrence and the new music scene in Germany.
Fine. Disc unplayed, contained in unopened paper envelope tipped-in to the magazine, as issued.
One of 2000 copies.
