Item #40944 Narcotica. Wallace BERMAN, Philip LAMANTIA.
Narcotica.

Narcotica.

SF: The Auerhahn Press, 1959. First edition. Slim 8vo. Stapled in wrps. (16pp.), with red printed endpapers. Cover art and five photographs by Wallace Berman, two of them showing the book’s author mainlining heroin (one of them was included in Semina 5).

The graphic depiction of drug use, combined with the pamphlet’s attacks on the narcotic laws, attracted press attention but somehow evaded confiscation by the police.

The back cover promotes other Auerhahn Press publications (this was their fifth) and promises future “Pamphlets & Broadsides to be released on the Film, songs of the Boobus, the Body-Image, the Undersoul, fire, metrics, etc.”.

The book quickly sold out and was never reprinted.

Wrappers lightly rubbed and toned; tiny, almost imperceptible top right corner crease to upper wrapper; o/w Near Fine in clear protective mylar.
