Watercolour paint on textured cream-coloured paper. SIGNED and titled in pencil and inscribed “for Vojo” (Sindolic, Croatian poet, writer and translator of Beat literature) to lower edge. Undated (c. 1990). 21x29.7cm.

The painting features three monkey faces peering out from an abstract wash of predominantly brown paint, its title perhaps referring to the multiple perspectives (‘ports of entry’) from which the image can be viewed. In the catalogue text for his first solo show three years earlier, Burroughs wrote: “I am trying to get pictures to move. It almost happens: a face comes into almost-miraculously close focus, almost smiles, snarls, speaks…”.
