Addressed on the verso by Piero Heliczer in white ink to Ira Cohen in New York, with his return address given as “Paris Filmmakers Coop Les Friches Préaux Orne Francia” and marked “please post” (postmarked Milano, date illegible, c. May 1970).
In addition, a rubber stamp to the verso advertises ‘film! poetRy! dance!’ at a festival in Préaux, the Normandy village Heliczer moved to after discovering it through his friendship with Hundertwasser.
The unnamed venue on blvd. Raspail in Montparnasse was The American Center for Students and Artists, a venue for exhibitions, theatre productions, dance performances, intermedia happenings, and concerts of jazz and experimental music during the 1960s.
Of the names mentioned on the flyer, Patti Lee Chenis (Heliczer’s companion at the time) co-founded the Paris Film-makers Co-op with Heliczer, Pamela Badyk and Barbara Rubin; Andy Warhol and Irene Nolan featured in several of Heliczer’s films; Heliczer knew Larry Rivers from New York; and mentions of composer Claudio Monteverdi and the Rolling Stones probably refer to the music Heliczer played at the film screenings (and/or the Stones’ upcoming European tour).
