i) original paste-ups. 14 foolscap sheets, including the front cover (printed offset by Hoppy) and its hand-drawn ink overlay (with mention of the “20 Guinea” film competition prize). The paste-ups were made by Miles, who in some instances typed up the letters and flyers in facsimile (among them the Timothy Leary Defense Fund flyer), or otherwise pasted the originals directly on to paper sheets (including John Wilcock’s letter and the mimeographed Ed Sanders newsletter). The double-sided typed aerogramme from the California surfer (addressed to Miles at Indica), dense with references to the surfing scene, the ‘acid craze’ and light shows, was never pasted-up and is present here as a loose item. Not present is Hoppy’s London Free School newsletter, since it was printed and distributed separately and included as an insert in the paper;

ii) a copy of the impossibly rare original flyer sent out by Miles and Hoppy announcing the forthcoming publication of their fledgling newspaper, “THE Global moon-edition Long Hair TIMES”. It asks “for news items of special interest” in eight different categories “to arrive here before MARCH 20th 1966 A.D.”, including “Sigmatic/Situationist & other points in time”; “Avant-garde jazz”; “Free University/Free School/ Community Development projects”; “Pot, LSD and other biochemical scenes/fuzz activity/advice”; “Happenings/Non-events”; and “Censorship/Love/Funny Things”. The flyer ends: “We send you love, & hope to receive cosmic signals.” Single sheet, printed recto. 25.5x20.4cm. Near Fine;

iii) a typed notice headed ‘Todays News’, dated March 15, announcing a benefit concert for jazz drummer Louis Moholo, and Timothy Leary’s fine and 30 year jail sentence “for bringing 3oz of Indian Hemp across the Mexican border into America… the maximum sentence possible under US law.” A statement below reads: “ALL INFORMATION to go into the Intergalactic Moon Edition of the LONG HAIR TIMES should be handed in here or sent to Lovebooks Ltd, 20 Fitzroy Square, London. W.1. by the end of the week. All information should be on paper 8” by 13” ready for facsimile reproduction. Payment in copies of mag.” Annotated in red. Several small holes from having being pinned up on the wall at Indica Books;

Faint central vertical crease; slight offsetting along left edge; o/w Very Good.
