The first two issues of the Journal of the London Film-Makers Co-operative, named by Simon Hartog and “intended as a platform for advanced criticism, and for imaginative writing on and around the theme of contemporary cinema”. The Co-op was founded at Better Books on October 13, 1966, following a series of film screenings organised by Bob Cobbing, with the first issue of its journal appearing less than a month later. By the time of the second issue, in which Cobbing lamented “the almost complete lack of co-operation from the New York Film-Makers’ Co-operative”, membership of the LFMC stood at 100.
Contributors to the issues here include Jonas Mekas; Bob Cobbing; Simon Hartog; Raymond Durgnat; George Andrews; Ron Geesin; Stephen Dwoskin; and Philip Crick. A third and final issue appeared in 1968, after which factional issues between Co-op members led to its demise.
Both copies unusually Fine.
