SIGNED by Nuttall on the front free endpaper.

A landmark book, reviewed by Miles in IT #45 (November 29, 1968): “It is many books in one: an H.M.S.O. ‘History of the Underground’, superb in documentation, extracts, manifestos, etc., also a testament of personal commitment, overpoweringly open and honest, questioning and faltering then elated and ecstatic. Lastly it is a Milleresque chronicle complete with Jeff’s own [Conrad] Moricand in the form of Criton [Tomazos] who hovers like Pinocchio’s conscience over all Jeff’s undertakings… Whatever the future is, Jeff will certainly be part of it.”

Twenty years later, Nuttall told Jonathon Green that he wrote the book as “a way of disassociating himself from the underground”, but instead “it had the effect of forever associating me with the underground.”

Near Fine in unclipped dw., with a Hull University Bookshop receipt from its original sale laid in. Signed copies are scarce.
